Moving Students into their new homes
It’s that time of year again and I was reminded about Student moves when reading the blog on rental site, Pimlico Flats
For the students maybe their life and career will be destroyed by a poor decision about accommodation leading to an unhappy and unsuccessful year at study. For parents there is the worry of imagining their child in some garret, rats chewing their toes at night, daughters lodging with prostitutes and rapists, sons knifed as they negotiate the street gangs on their way home from the library. For Landlords there is the prospect of all night student parties, carpets ruined, furniture destroyed.
Now not all student ‘digs’ are great and neither are all student moves. Why I hear you ask? because people don’t always tell the truth when booking a student move. They ring up and ask you to move 2 bin liners and when you arrive at the collection address there are 7 bin liners, 2 sofas a bed and a wardrobe…
If you are looking at a cost effective way of moving into your student rental accommodation then have a look around and get a good view of what is available on the market – Pimlico Flats look like a good place to start, and if you need help with your student move – you know where we are too!

Removals done the easy way part 2
Now you have got rid of all the clutter and un needed items that you dont want to move to your new home its time to start looking around for a removal company.
Most removal companies will quote in one of two ways.
1) They will come round to your house and carry out an inventory which will allow them to determine the time and labour needed to do the job
or 2) They will ask you to fill out an inventory form, this will give you time to check and double check exactly what it is that you will be moving.
Both ways are good enough to give you an accurate price and a complete breakdown of the service that they will be offering you.
Arrow Light Haulage prefer to email you over a quote form, mainly because this gives you time to walk around your house without distractions and complete the form accuratley.
If requested we will attend your home and do this for you.
Make sure you check out the company that you are using.
Remember the cheapest price is not always the best option.
Look out for part 3 and i will tell you how to check your removal company out along with some more tips

Removals done the easy way
With any big project you take on you can choose to do it the hard way or the easy way. The same principal is used in moving home .
Organisation and preparation is the key to an easy house move.
Once you have decided to move don’t wait until you have your moving date make a start straight away.
Start by ordering some boxes and going through those cupboards that havent been touched for a while, br ruthless box up the stuff you no longer use and get rid of it either through freecycle or hand it in a the local charity shop.
Start boxing up the rest that you rarley use but still want to keep. Make sure that you have some decent packing tape and marker pens.
Always label your boxes up clearly with the contents, this will stop you constantly having to open them to see whats in them. It sounds simple but you would be amazed at how many people forget to do this.
I shall be posting more tips on this site in the coming weeks so keep an eye out

Mattress Delivery from Kent or Essex, When your supplier lets you Down
Being a flexible company is more than just picking up and delivering, its also about helping people out of difficult situations at a cost effective price.
Arrow Light Haulage helped out again today with a new customer that had been let down by a bed suppliers own delivery system.
We recieved a phone call at 1pm today asking if we could pick up a kingsize mattress from Kent and deliver it into central London today.
The customer had only just been told that this next day bed company couldnt deliver their purchase leaving them with no where to sleep tonight.
We agreed a price that the customer was happy with and we collected within 1 hour of final confirmation of the job booking. We called our customer to say we had collected and gave them an estimated time of delivery which was within 3 hours.
We got to the delivery point early and our customer was very pleased.
We quickly established what the problem was regarding the delivery of this item, there were 3 flights of stairs and no lift.
Arrow Light Haulage did not see this as a problem, we got on with the job , unpacked said item and removed the packaging for recycling.
Our customer was Very happy and is now going to recommend our courier and removal service not only to her friends but to her boss and work colleagues.
If you have a problem with a shop ordered item and they will not deliver when you need the delivery to be made, give us a call on 0844 884 3331 or email mr at kevin@arrowlighthaulage.co.uk. We always go the extra mile to help people no matter what challenge we are faced with

Removals Company based in Essex but will collect and Deliver anywhere in England
Once you have decided to move and are at the stage of booking a removal company, where do you start?
Most people will look in the local papers or yellow pages, this isn’t a bad idea but have you considered looking for a removal firm that is located where you are moving to?
Arrow Light Haulage welcomes calls from customers from all over England. The reason for this is quite simple When we have a removal from Essex going to Birmingham for instance, An ideal scenario for our customers as well as us would be to get a removal from Birmingham back to Essex or anywhere en route.
This saves our vehicles from running empty, using fuel without reason and can also keep another vehicle off the road when our vehicle is doing that journey anyway.
The benefit for the customer? normally these “return” loads will be charged at a reduced rate therefore saving you some money on your removal costs. This does not however compromise the quality of the service that you recieve from Arrow Light Haulage.
When you are ready to start getting quotes in for your house or flat move give Essex removals company Arrow Light Haulage a call and lets see if we can save you some money

Difficult Deliveries into Awkward Spaces
I was thinking about what makes a delivery difficult and I wrote about when deliveries go wrong: Quite often the problem can be in the venue the item is being delivered too. Doorways can be too narrow for sofas and beds resulting in the removal of a window to get the item in the house.Sarah & Kevin Arrow, West Thurrock & Dartford Courier and parcel services, Aug 2008 Quite often a courier will only deliver kerbside to kerbside. They are no longer insured to go into the home of the customer. Often with our drivers they won’t leave you to struggle with the getting the item inside part, but it needs to be understood this isn’t part of many courier companies services, this is goodwill from the driver. It really helps to inform the driver if help us needed and on some occasions a two man team is needed. With doorways becoming narrower, and windows being removed to deliver sofas there is a lot that can make a successful delivery go wrong. If you would like advice about getting your delivery into awkward places, please give us a call we are happy to advise our numbers are 0844 884 3331or 07816 528421.

Short Term Storage Whilst Decorating.
More and more frequently we are being asked to move items of furniture from peoples houses and offices and to put them into short term storage.
This is a sensible option for many reasons, builders like to work in empty spaces, it makes their life easier and lets them work faster not having to move your units or sofa out of the way everytime they need to get to that part of the room.
It also reduces the risk of any potential damage to your furniture, paint gets spilled accidents happen though if your furniture is not there it cant happen.
At Arrow Light Haulage we have the facility to collevct, store and re deliver your furniture wether it be 1 sofa or a whole house full of furniture and items.
Give us a call on 0844 884 3331 or email me at kevin@arrowlighthaulage.co.uk for a no obligation quote.

What To Look For When Hiring A Removal Company
Choosing a removal company can be a difficult job if you don’t know what your are looking for. Most people will be under the illusion that all removal companies work to the same standards and it just boils down to cost. This can be a costly view point.
At Arrow Light Haulage we offer you the service that you need so therefore you only pay for what you require.
Some of the question you must ask are here.
1) will your vehicle be big enough?
2) What time will you arrive?
3) How many removal men will you be using to move me?
4) How will you handle my fragile goods?
5) Do you offer insurance for ALL of my items?
6) Roughly how long will it take to load?
7) What happens if you van breaks down before it gets to me?
How much will it cost?
9) Are there any other costs that may be charged to me?
10) What makes your company different from any other?
This list is not exhaustive and should be some of the questions that you ask. The company being asked for a quote should also either look around your property or ask you to fill in a detailed room by room list of all your large, fragile and other items.
If you find that the company you have asked to quote will not commit to a price or will is un willing to answer your questions, my advice would be to move onto the next one. Also bear in mind the first quote you get doesn’t have to be the only one. If you obtain two or three quotes you can compare service against price to make your decision.
If you are moving to or from Essex remember to give me a call on 0844 884 3331 or email me directly at kevin@arrowlighthaulage.co.uk for some help, advice and possibly for the opportunity for us to quote for your move

Collecting and Delivering a Dining Table and Chairs
These are generally too heavy to be delivered by parcel services. Depending on what they are made from, I would check with your courier company first. If it’s possible, the furniture should be dismantled and packaged securely before collection, this reduces the cubic weight and makes it more likely your items can be delivered. Remember to package them carefully to prevent damage.
If your local parcel courier company is not able to deliver your items, you have some options.
Pallet Networks – You dining is palletised and collected with other items and sent to the hub (usually in the Midlands) then put on a vehicle that will deliver to a depot and then on to you, the end destination. Your pallet may be ‘ugly freight‘ or oversized and this would be more expensive. There is high risk of damage using these services and it’s very difficult to establish where in the chain it happened.
Overnight / Economy courier – Your dining table is collected and loaded onto the vehicle, with other goods and delivered at some point in the next few days. The routes are as fuel efficient as possible, less chance of damage than a pallet network, but your item could risk some damage if the courier company does not secure their loads or protect your dining table and chairs correctly. We always secure our items and wrap them for added protection.
Same day or express courier - you item is the only item on the vehicle, it is secured and delivered in one piece, the only method likely to result in the least amount of damage.
On deciding which type of courier you require, you also need to think about what suits you for delivery options, will they deliver out of hours? will they deliver at a time convenient to you?
If you have any question, we are happy to help and advise.
